It's how we make it all happen
A small and mighty army of volunteers work to keep St. John's flowing like clockwork. From welcoming visitors or operating the sound system to helping out at weddings or sprucing up the grounds, we're blessed by each team and the work they perform in and around our church. There's a place you can plug in at St. John's too. Our Sunday morning teams and ministry leaders welcome the opportunity to answer your questions about what they do and how you can help. Most of these teams involve a minimal time commitment with maximum reward.
Where would you like to plug in?
Altar Guild is a ministry of preparation. Jesus wanted our senses active as we receive the forgiveness He earned for us, so he instituted Holy Communion for His people to taste and touch. Be a part of preparing the table where so many have an intimate connection with God and with each other. Joining Altar Guild involves a minimal time commitment of serving one Sunday per month at one service per month. The total time commitment is 15-30 minutes. If you're already at St. John's for worship, please prayerfully consider joining the Altar Guild team.
Our Facilities Team is the "behind the scenes crew" that keeps St John's in top-shape! Painting, cleaning, repairing and building projects are just some of the projects the team performs. If you have just a few hours a month or time to commit to a whole project, let us know. We can use help during the week or on Saturdays. The projects can fit into your schedule.
LIFEGroups are groups of people that live out their faith together. It is our desire to see disciples of Jesus engaging with one another outside of worship, engaging with God's word and looking for ways to serve their community. We're always looking for new leaders to form groups. Check out our LIFEGroups page for more information.
Memorial Service Hospitality Team
St. John's Memorial Service Hospitality Team helps families prepare for a loved one's memorial service. During this difficult and sometimes emotional time, the team provides information, offers planning suggestions and organizes the service to meet the precise needs of family and friends. St. John's performs all the behind-the-team tasks to make the service as meaningful as possible.
Praise & Music Teams
St. John's believes that God is looking for wholehearted worshipers who worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:23-24). If you play an instrument and have some experience with contemporary praise & worship music, are comfortable reading a chord chart and enjoy all types of musical styles, then contact us about becoming a part of the worship team for both the 9:30am and 11:15am praise services. If you enjoy singing, have a good ear for a melody, you're enthusiastic about God and want to help others experience God's presence through music, then we want to talk to you!
We also offer a classic service every Sunday at 7:45 AM. This traditional service features our choir, hymns with accompaniment by an organ or piano, soloists and instruments such as the trumpet or cello. If you are interested in joining the choir or serving as an instrumentalist, this could be the place for you!
Like helping to put together information and coordinate the production of print materials? Think about becoming a part of the St. John's Publications team. From proofing materials to putting together the finished product, this team helps to distribute information to the St. John's community on a regular basis.
Wedding Hospitality Team
We love weddings at St. John's! Our goal is to help make each wedding at St. John's run smoothly so it is as special as the day. We help with all aspects of the wedding and rehearsal. Our Wedding Facilitator and staff provide information and support for the wedding and assist with decision-making as needed.
If you like making people feel at home and enjoy helping visitors make connections, our team might be the place for you! We have welcome stations at both the Franklin and GIlpin Street entrances. We'll get you started with a brief training session, answer all your questions and you'll be ready to greet. We ask that you are at St. John's at least 20 minutes before the service and stay until approximately 10 minutes after the start of the service. The Welcome Ministry meets the first Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at 6:00 PM in the Chapel.
Worship Production Team
St John's has a group of volunteers devoted to producing with our worship services with excellence. Our services can be very multi-media faceted with live bands and musicians. Our team assists with video presentation software (Pro-Presenter), room lighting, audio controls, video-taping and many other tasks associated with seamlessly producing our services. No experience is necessary and training is provided for all volunteers. We are looking for willing hearts and hands who love to serve "behind the scenes" in making services God-honoring and uplifting.
Worship Service Team
If you are looking for a great way to connect with people on Sundays, we'd love to talk to you! Ushers are an important part of our worship serivces, so we're looking for friendly, smiling men and women to greet others as they enter the sanctuary, answer questions before the service, collect the offering and assist people coming forward for communion. Ushers may sit with your family and friends during the service. Ushers typically serve at one or two services a month.
Our Communion Assistants help in serving the Lord's Supper. We welcome men with hearts striving to serve the Lord to assist in serving communion. We ask that you serve once a month. This 10-minute task does require that you arrive at church 15 minutes prior to the service which you are serving for a quick pre-service gathering and prayer. Assisting with communion is a simple, yet important, part of our services at St. John's.
